The Cat.

In the town of Siraf lived a poor old woman whose only possession was a cat. She gave it to a merchant to sell for her abroad. He came to the island of Qais where there was a plague of mice. There were so many that the kings and nobles had to keep their beards in golden tubes, and to have sticks at mealtimes. The merchant took the cat ashore, and in time it killed the mice. The kings bought the cat and gave in return for it a ship full of fine goods. This was given to the old woman, whose sons made such good use of it that their descendants became kings of Qais. © 2016 - 2020. Powered by Blogger.
