Analysis of the Complex Sentence.
Look at these two sentences:—
(a) Here is a book.
(b) Here is the book that you were looking for.
The first is called a Simple sentence. It forms one group of words, and contains a subject and a predicate.
The second is called a Complex sentence. It contains two groups of words:—
1. A principal group, with a subject and a predicate.
2. A subordinate group, also with a subject and a predicate.
(a) Here is a book.
(b) Here is the book that you were looking for.
